Abstract

The current status of the Model Driven Architecture (MDA) in OMG is evolving rapidly, and is to a large extent expressed by a number of distinct technologies, which are only loosely coupled with each other.

The procedures and methods of how these technologies can be used and even combined and applied for the development of large scale systems are yet now very well laid out. Since a model driven approach represents a fundamental paradigm shift, it is of paramount importance that the industry consolidates soon the experiences from application of the model driven approach into a set of coherent procedures and methods.

The MODA-TEL project currently developing prototype use cases applying MDA is in the position to formulate and document such procedures and methods. In this document different phases of established processes in the software development life cycle are related to certain activities of model driven engineering.

This document provides also guidance in using MDA tools for the development of model-driven solutions. Most MDA tools on the market share a common set of features and some have developed a specialty, such as support for modelling and simulation of executable models. The usage of such common and special features is explained and guidance is given to identify the features needed when facing a particular problem.
